I started the lessons on DrawSpace. The book I had wasn’t really doing it for me. So! What did I learn?
I learned that I should have my tablet propped up and not horizontal. Currently using my wallet. It works oddly well! Had an easier time drawing like that, I did.
I learned what sorts of straight lines and curves I have the easiest time with (top right -> bottom left, clockwise). I dunno what the picture on the left is. I just did all the lines with the same sort of stroke, just rotating the picture in SAI. Gotta learn to do that often, the lesson said!
I also devised myself a game of sorts. An obstacle course, to be more precise. I put some circles down, and then I try to slalom between them without touching them. It was fun, and I think it’s pretty good accuracy practice. In the end, I, um, “finished” the picture.
It’s not particularly interesting, but what were you four strangers expecting? I’m not really looking for followers here. Rather, I’m just trying to improve under my mentor’s watchful eye. <.<
Where are y’all coming from? D: This blog isn’t meant to be followed, darnit!
Umm, I guess I gotta keep you updated! I’ve been slacking off in my drawing due to an abundance of schoolwork. Today I did draw, but nothing post-worthy came of it. I gotta get a better book than the one I currently have.
Oooh. Possibly my favorite exercise so far. The premise is that you quickly sketch out one dog and then redraw it about twenty times, being really quick. Then at the end, you pick out your favorites and think about why you like them.
The ones I like are marked with a smilie. I think I like them because while they look messy, they also look ghastly, in a way. I like that.
Though I also love the top row. It reads like that one artist’s descent into schizophrenic madness.
I tried to make it look like the plate is curved, which is why the reflection gets a bit wider. I had no idea how to make it more obvious, though. The cup also reflects the plate, at least supposedly. No idea how to make glass look like glass. Only part I kinda like is the reflection on the surface of the tea.
